Facilities
Founded in 1928, Mazapan School is located in the Mazapan Zone of La Ceiba, close to the city's central park. The air-conditioned facilities include 18 classrooms, a library, a computer laboratory, 2 science laboratories, a covered gymnasium, an auditorium, 3 playing fields (basketball, soccer, baseball/softball), a gym, a cafeteria, an art room, a music room and administrative offices. Tennis courts, a golf course, a swimming pool and other facilities are also available in other areas of the city for school activities.
The campus is well-known locally for its many gardens and various plants similar to the ones found in nearby Swinford Park. The flora has attracted various small animals like iguanas, local and migrating birds, and butterflies.
The library offers more than eight complete sets of encyclopedias for research plus computers with internet access using the EBSCOHost search engine. It also has well over 10000 books and a viewing room. Videos, DVDs, vertical files, newspapers and other periodicals such as Time, Newsweek etc. are also available. The library also has a video projector and a Laptop PC for student and faculty use.
The computer laboratory has the following equipment:
- 30 Dell computers using Windows XP on a Windows 2003 Domain
- Productivity Software
- Battery backup for all computers
- Internet access
- 1 color laser printer
- 1 B&W laser printer
- Video projector for presentations.
- 1 scanner
The air-conditioned auditorium or all purpose room (APR) is used for assemblies, programs, plays, dances, pep-rallies, science fairs, art fairs, knowledge bowl competitions and many other activities. Its curtained stage is used for a variety of shows and theatrical presentations.
The open-air covered gymnasium has facilities for sports activities such as basketball, volleyball, floor hockey and tennis. Graduations, proms, barbecues, exhibits, musical programs and many other activities are also held in the gymnasium. Next to the gym is the cafeteria/snack bar which provides snacks and lunch meals for students, teachers and visitors.
The music room is located next to the art room. A newly purchased state of the art sound system, with mixer, amplifiers, omni-directional and conventional microphones and speakers and a variety of musical instruments are available for anyone interested in joining our school bands or pop band. The art room offers an opportunity for students to express their creativity through a wide range of mediums and materials.
The two science labs are well equipped for scientific investigations in Biology, Physics and Chemistry classes. Proper safety gear must be worn at all times and safety procedures are constantly observed.
Mazapan School has round-the-clock security to ensure the safety of its students and staff. A chain-link fence surrounds the entire campus and guards patrol the campus and its surrounding residential areas. We also have a video security system that allows officials to monitor several key areas of the school's campus at all times.
